GEMS OF TIME- SALON QP

Illustration enters the world of high jewellery and exhibition design.

Invited on two occasions to contribute work to Gems of Time, the high-jewellery exhibition presented by SalonQP at London’s Saatchi Gallery, Da Costa’s illustrations were placed within an exhibition celebrating the artistry, craftsmanship, and heritage of jewelled watches.

Curated by Caragh McKay and designed by Leila Latchin, the exhibition brought together exceptional timepieces from some of the worlds leading jewellery and watch maisons, including Bulgari, Cartier, Piaget, De Beers, and Backes & Strauss.

Da Costa’s drawings provided a fashion perspective on the jewellery, bringing the human figure and the language of fashion illustration into a spatial exhibition context.

For the 2015 Gems of Time exhibition, Saatchi Gallery London, Da Costa’s illustrations were streamed on a dividing wall within the exhibition, creating an immersive dialogue between drawing, fashion, and fine jewellery.

The collaboration offered a different way for Da Costa’s work to exist- not simply on the page, but as part of a larger visual and spatial experience.
