Conceived and pitched to Vogue Portugal for its 20th Anniversary issue, Gru-Oh! The Art of Fashion celebrates the enduring relationship between couture and illustration.

Inspired by the legacy of Vogue Illustrator René Gruau, whose expressive drawings helped shape how Haute Couture was communicated through fashion maisons, advertising, and magazines of the 1940s and ‘50s, the concept brought this visual language into a contemporary context.

John Galliano’s Margiela Couture became the starting point: theatrical silhouettes, exagerated proportions, and a sense of fantasy that felt particularly aligned with Gruau’s world.

To develop the story, Da Costa invited renowned creative director Jason Duzansky to collaborate, creating a contemporary dialogue between Galliano’s couture, Gruau’s visual legacy and Da Costa’s own distinctive fashion illustration.
